The Role: Carpentry Supervisor 

Location: Cardiff (office based) 

Salary: £30,000 – £35,000 (dependant on experience) 

Working hours: 37.5 hours per week 8am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday 

Contract: Full-time 

 

Position Overview: 

We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Carpentry Supervisor to join our team. The Carpentry Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the carpentry team, ensuring the highest standards of craftsmanship and safety in the construction of props and scenery. This role involves managing projects from conception to completion, collaborating with various departments, and maintaining a productive and positive work environment.

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead, supervise, and motivate the Carpentry Team, ensuring efficient workflow and high morale 
  • Collaborate with Design Supervisors to offer creative solutions to carpentry challenges during the design phase 
  • Manage carpentry projects, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating with other departments to ensure timely and on-budget completion 
  • Facilitate effective communication between all departments and provide progress updates to the Construction Manager, highlighting any challenges 
  • Inspecting the work of staff and freelancers to ensure all work meets Wild Creations’ standards of excellence in craftsmanship and safety 
  • Drive the development of the Carpentry department by researching 

and implementing new methods, materials, and equipment 

  • Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and promoting best practices 
  • Maintain a safe work environment, adhering to all Wild Creations Health & Safety Policies & Procedures and the Company Handbook 
  • Maintain accurate records of completed projects and ‘as built’ information 
  • Work with the Production Coordinator to track and manage the procurement of materials, managing inventory and budget effectively 
  • Oversee the maintenance and proactive care of carpentry tools and machinery 
  • Assist the Construction Manager in coordinating the movement of projects between departments 
  • Participate in test builds when necessary 
  • Work on-site as required
  • Support other departments and areas as needed 
  • Attend relevant training sessions as requested
  • Assist with building maintenance and improvements 
  • Maintain a professional demeanour when interacting with Wild Creations staff, contractors, and clients 

 

The successful candidate will have: 

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in carpentry, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role. 
  • Proficient in carpentry techniques, tools, and materials. 
  • Strong understanding of design and construction processes. 
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships and collaborate with team members across the organisation. 
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with a creative approach to overcoming challenges. 
  • Excellent attention to detail, ensuring high standards of craftsmanship. 
  • Experience in project management, including planning, scheduling, and budgeting. 
  • In-depth knowledge of health & safety regulations and best practices in a carpentry setting. 
  • Willingness to adapt to varying schedules and adjust as needed to meet project timelines

 

Qualifications: 

  • Health and safety certifications (e.g., CSCS card) are highly desirable 
  • Relevant qualifications in carpentry or construction, such as HNC/HND, NVQ level 3, City & Guilds Carpentry and Joinery or a completed apprenticeship in Carpentry and Joinery, are desirable 
  • A valid UK driving licence is preferred. 
  • Prior experience in a design manufacturing or related industry is preferred but not essential..
